MY EXPERTISE

Life Coaching Techniques

I often use a variety of well-known techniques and frameworks to help my clients reach their goals, address limiting beliefs, and improve their overall well-being.
Here are some popular techniques that have specified names and are commonly used in my life coaching approach;

Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP)

NLP is a psychological approach that examines how language and thought patterns influence behavior. Life coaches use NLP techniques to help clients reframe negative beliefs, improve communication skills, and develop more empowering thought patterns.

Cognitive Behavioral Coaching (CBC)

Based on principles from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), CBC helps clients identify and change negative thought patterns and behaviors. It’s commonly used to address issues like anxiety, self-doubt, and procrastination.

Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT or Tapping)

EFT combines elements of exposure therapy with acupressure, using gentle tapping on specific points on the body. This technique helps clients release stress and negative emotions, improving emotional resilience and clarity.

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR)

MBSR incorporates mindfulness meditation practices to help clients increase awareness and reduce stress. Life coaches use MBSR to support clients in managing stress, improving focus, and enhancing emotional well-being.

Solution-Focused Brief Coaching (SFBC)

SFBC emphasizes finding immediate, practical solutions to specific issues. It helps clients focus on their strengths and resources, promoting a positive mindset and fast progress toward goals.

Strengths-Based Coaching

This approach focuses on identifying and leveraging the client’s unique strengths rather than focusing on weaknesses. It’s often used to build confidence and enhance performance in both personal and professional settings.

The GROW Model

GROW stands for Goal, Reality, Options, and Will. This structured coaching model is used to set clear goals, assess the current situation, brainstorm options, and develop actionable steps to achieve the client’s objectives.

Motivational Interviewing (MI)

MI is a client-centered approach that helps clients resolve ambivalence about change and find intrinsic motivation to pursue their goals. It’s especially helpful for addressing behavior change in areas like health, career, and relationships.

Positive Psychology Coaching

This technique focuses on enhancing well-being, resilience, and happiness by leveraging principles from positive psychology. It encourages clients to build on positive emotions, gratitude, and optimism.

SMART Goal Setting

SMART goals are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound. This framework is widely used to help clients clarify and achieve their goals with precision and accountability.

Acceptance and Commitment Coaching (ACC)

Based on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), this approach helps clients accept difficult emotions and thoughts while committing to meaningful actions aligned with their values.

Transactional Analysis (TA)

TA explores how interactions and communication styles impact relationships and self-perception. It’s helpful for improving interpersonal skills and addressing patterns developed in childhood.

Mind Mapping

Mind mapping helps clients visually organize their thoughts and goals. It’s useful for brainstorming, identifying connections, and breaking down complex issues into manageable steps.

Values-Based Coaching

This technique focuses on aligning actions and decisions with the client’s core values. It promotes authenticity and purpose by helping clients live in accordance with their beliefs.

Inner Child Work

Inner child work helps clients address unresolved emotions or unmet needs from childhood. By reconnecting with the inner child, clients can heal past wounds and build self-compassion.

Regression Therapy (Hypnosis)

A technique where clients are guided back to earlier memories or past experiences to uncover the root causes of current issues. This allows them to heal unresolved trauma and emotional pain.

Suggestion Therapy (Hypnosis)

Uses positive, direct suggestions while the client is in a relaxed state to shift behavior patterns, eliminate bad habits, and instill new positive behaviors, such as confidence and motivation.

Parts Therapy (Hypnosis)

Focuses on resolving internal conflicts by addressing different “parts” of the psyche. Helps individuals find harmony within themselves when there are conflicting desires or goals.

Ego-Strengthening (Hypnosis)

A technique that strengthens a person’s sense of self, reinforcing positive beliefs, self-esteem, and inner strength to support personal growth and emotional well-being.

Transformational Regression (RTT)

Involves regressing clients to uncover the root cause of emotional or behavioral issues. RTT works to release limiting beliefs and trauma, replacing them with empowering thoughts and emotions.

Direct Suggestion Therapy (RTT)

Uses personalized suggestions in a deep relaxed state to replace negative beliefs with positive ones. RTT aims to instill new patterns of confidence, motivation, and healing in the subconscious mind.

Parts Integration (RTT)

Helps clients reconcile conflicting aspects of themselves by integrating subconscious parts that may be at odds. This promotes alignment and harmony between thoughts, actions, and desires.

Reframing (RTT)

Helps clients change their perspective on past experiences by viewing them through a more empowering lens. Reframing allows individuals to shift from a victim mindset to one of personal empowerment.

Healing the Inner Child (RTT)

Works with clients to heal childhood wounds and traumas by connecting with and nurturing the inner child, allowing them to release limiting beliefs and foster emotional resilience.

Grief Counseling (Grief Therapy)

Focuses on providing emotional support and a safe space for clients to express their feelings of grief. It helps individuals process the stages of grief (denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance).

Narrative Therapy (Grief Therapy)

Encourages clients to reframe their grief story. By expressing and revising the narrative of their loss, individuals can find new meaning, acceptance, and healing from their grief.

Complicated Grief Therapy (Grief Therapy)

Specifically designed for individuals experiencing prolonged grief that prevents them from moving forward. This therapy helps clients process unresolved grief and re-establish healthy emotional functioning.

Mindfulness-Based Grief Therapy (Grief Therapy)

Combines mindfulness practices with grief therapy to help individuals stay present with their grief without becoming overwhelmed. It encourages acceptance, self-compassion, and emotional healing.

Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) for Grief (Grief Therapy)

A therapeutic approach that helps clients process and release deep emotional pain related to their loss. EFT helps individuals connect with and express their feelings for healing.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for Grief (Grief Therapy)

Focuses on helping clients recognize and shift negative thought patterns associated with grief. It supports clients in developing healthier coping strategies and a positive outlook after a loss.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is life coaching?

Life coaching is the process of transforming one’s life from insight into action.

How does life coaching work?

First we look at where you are, and determine where you want to get to. Once we know the destination, then we look at what is stopping you getting there, and how we can move you forward.

I use a variety of tools and techniques including but not limited to Neuro-linguistic Programming (NLP), Cognitive Behaviourial Therapy (CBT) and the TGROW coaching model. I also draw from my rich life experience from my days as an entrepreneur, addiction recovery, as well as the extensive coaching and personal development work I’ve done myself.

What’s the difference between life coaching and therapy?

Therapy is more focused on mental health, and transforming dysfunctional behaviours into functional ones. It tends to involve a lot of focus on the past.

Life Coaching, however, is more focused on moving forward and creating your future. Imagine you are in a car at point A. The process of my coaching is about determining where point B is for you, helping you determine the best route to get there, and seeing if there are any blockages in the engine of the car (such as limiting beliefs).

There may be some overlap with certain therapy and life coaching styles such as exploring your psyche. My life coaching tends to only revisit the past in an almost surgical way of rewriting old core beliefs, whereas therapy tends to focus exclusively on the past.

It should be stressed that life coaching is not a replacement for professional psychological help. If you believe you are suffering from mental health issues, you should first speak to your doctor as a first port of call.

How much do you charge?

Do you work face-to-face or over the phone? Is there a difference?

I offer both at present. There isn’t any difference in the quality of session I have found.

Are you Certified

Yes, I am a certified life coaching professional.

Do you offer discounts?

Yes, we are offering 15% discounts on life coaching sessions

I have a friend/relative who would benefit from life coaching - can you help?

If it is a psychological or mental health issue, you should first refer them to a medical or psychological professional.

I have a friend/relative who would benefit from life coaching - can you help?

If it is a psychological or mental health issue, you should first refer them to a medical or psychological professional.

If you believe they would really benefit from coaching, know that I can only work with them if they are willing to work with me. Most likely, they are not ready for coaching yet if you are having to book the consultation for them.

Instead, it may be better for you to focus on your life and your issues to avoid becoming codependent with trying to fix the person you are trying to help (this is especially true if they have an addiction).

Do you work with people under 18?

We are offering teen mentoring program with their parents/guardian permission, and subject to my Coaching Agreement, yes.
